Tommy's Margarita

Tommy's Margarita

The margarita will always hold a special place in our hearts (and our taste buds!), largely because it was the first cocktail we ever made! After that first time, we tweaked our recipe time and time again, always seeking to make the perfect margarita. Then we tried a Tommy's Margarita - and we were blown away! Created by Julio Bermejo of Tommy's Mexican Restaurant in San Francisco, the Tommy's Margarita places the focus of the cocktail precisely where it should be - on the tequila! By limiting the ingredients used to just tequila, fresh-squeezed lime juice, and agave nectar, this recipe allows your favorite blanco tequila to shine - and it also makes it incredibly easy to make!

  • 2 oz blanco tequila
  • 1 oz fresh-squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 oz agave nectar
  • Salt (we recommend coarse kosher or sea salt!)
  • Lime wheel (for garnish)

  1. Salt the rim of an old-fashioned glass. To do this, fill a saucer with salt, rub a lime wedge around the rim of your glass, and dip the rim of the glass into the saucer filled with salt. Tip: We generally opt to salt only half of the rim for our margaritas. This technique is great if you aren't sure whether you prefer salt with your margarita or if you are making them to serve to a group (like at your next summer barbecue!)

  2. Combine tequila, lime juice, and agave nectar in a shaker and add ice. Tip: To make your life easier, try using a citrus press like this one!

  3. Shake and strain into a salt-rimmed old-fashioned glass filled with ice, and garnish with a lime wheel.

  4. Enjoy!
