Homemade Crispy Pita Chips

Homemade Crispy Pita Chips

Our first experience with fresh pita chips was at this tiny falafel place in our college town (which is still one of our favorite restaurants in the world!). Each time we went, we always ordered a huge platter of their made-to-order seasoned pita chips along with a heaping serving of freshly-made hummus. It was absolute heaven! And after graduating from college and moving away, we found ourselves craving those amazing pita chips! So we set out to make our own version - with a healthy twist! Instead of frying them, we decided to develop an oven-baked version! Trust us, after seeing how easy these homemade pita chips are to make (and how delicious they are!), you won't want to go back to bagged, pre-made pita chips!

  • 3-4 fresh pitas
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp parsley
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp oregano

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F (175° C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. Cut the pita bread into quarters. Cut each quarter in half so that you have eight individual triangles of pita per pita used. Tip: We like to use a pizza wheel to cut the pita like we would a pizza.

  3. Once the pita is cut, use your hands to unfold each pita triangle into a diamond shape. Either tear or cut the diamond in half to create two separate pita triangles.

  4. Place all of the triangles into a large sealable container. Drizzle the olive oil over the pita and seal the container with a lid. Shake the container vigorously until the pita is thoroughly coated in olive oil.

  5. Sprinkle the parsley, salt, garlic powder, and oregano onto the pita and repeat the process (seal the container and shake vigorously until the pita is thoroughly coated in the seasonings).

  6. Lay the pita triangles out on the baking sheets without any overlapping. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes or until the pita chips are crispy. Tip: Allow the pita chips to sit out on top of the stove for 5-10 minutes to cool. They will continue to become crispy as they cool!

  7. Enjoy!
