Let’s be honest – who doesn’t love coffee? And for us, this love is twofold – coffee serves as both a delicious treat and a caffeine-fueled pick-me-up to help us push through even the longest day at the office! As much as we enjoy a delicious cup of drip coffee or a well-crafted latté (and we do!), we absolutely love seeking out new and innovative coffee drinks to try! And that’s precisely how we discovered cold brew coffee! The first time we tried it, we picked up a bottle from a tiny, local cold brew company based in our college town (who still makes some of the absolute best bottled cold brew out there!), and we were amazed by just how unique and delicious it was! Unlike standard iced coffee, cold brew is smooth and sweet, as the cold-brewing process brings out nutty and chocolatey notes while leaving the bitterness behind. And despite the hefty price tag placed on cold brew from your local café or grocery store, this recipe proves that cold brew coffee is both easy and affordable to make at home!

Pairings:

Ingredients:

  • 4 1/2 cups water
  • 6 oz coarsely-ground coffee (around 2 cups)

Instructions:

  1. Combine water and coarsely-ground coffee in a large pitcher (or similar covered container like a mason jar). Stir briefly to ensure all coffee grounds are fully submerged.

  2. Let the coffee steep at room temperature for 20 hours, resulting in a strong coffee concentrate. Tip: This 20-hour guideline is based on our personal preferences! If you find that the end product is too strong for your taste, reduce the steeping time until it is the right strength for you!

  3. After steeping, strain using a fine mesh strainer (to remove larger grounds) and then a coffee filter or cheesecloth (to remove any smaller particles). Pour strained coffee concentrate into an airtight glass container (like a mason jar!) and store in the refrigerator. If stored properly, the concentrate should keep for at least two weeks.

  4. To serve, dilute the concentrate with water or your favorite non-dairy milk (we recommend a 1:1 ratio of coffee concentrate to water/milk) and pour over ice.

  5. Enjoy!
