Prisoner's Dilemma (Rye + Red Wine + Coffee Liqueur)

With January coming to a close, we’ve plunged right into the heart of winter here in Chicago - and there is no better way to survive the frigid cold (and celebrate the start of a month best known for a certain romance-centric holiday) than by showcasing one of our absolute favorite cocktail ingredients - wine! Featuring a base of dry red wine, this cocktail complements the wine’s rich, fruit-forward flavor profile with hints of spice, coffee, and cherry - thanks to generous additions of rye whiskey, coffee liqueur, Cynar, and spiced cherry bitters - resulting in a drink that is balanced, complex, and endlessly drinkable! Whether you’re craving a slow-sipping cocktail to keep you warm during these cold winter nights or just looking to trade out your usual glass of wine for something a bit more interesting this Valentine’s Day, we know you will love this cocktail as much as we do!

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz rye whiskey

  • 1 oz dry red wine (we used Shiraz!)

  • 1/2 oz coffee liqueur

  • 1/2 oz Cynar

  • 3 dashes spiced cherry bitters

Instructions:

  1. Combine rye whiskey, dry red wine, coffee liqueur, Cynar, and spiced cherry bitters in a mixing glass and fill with ice.

  2. Stir and strain into an old fashioned glass over a large ice cube.

  3. Enjoy!
