Here in Chicago, it’s really starting to feel like autumn is right around the corner! And as a result, we’ve definitely started craving some of our favorite autumn cocktails - like this classic Manhattan! With its rich, warming combination of spicy rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and Angostura bitters, there are very few classic cocktails that get us in the autumn spirit as much as a well-crafted Manhattan. And not only is it the perfect slow-sipper to keep you warm on a crisp autumn night - with only three ingredients, it’s also incredibly quick and easy to make! It’s also definitely worth noting that because it is so simple and rich, the Manhattan serves as a great base cocktail to put your own unique twist on - whether that means incorporating a couple dashes of uniquely-flavored bitters or (our favorite!) finishing it off with a mist of your favorite overproof rum! So mix up one (or two!) of this incredible classic cocktail to celebrate the autumn months to come!

  • 2 oz rye whiskey

  • 1 oz sweet vermouth

  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

  • Lemon peel (for garnish)

  • Mist of overproof rum (optional, but highly recommended!)

  1. Combine rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and Angostura bitters in a mixing glass and fill with ice. Tip: If you don't have a mixing glass, a pint glass works just as well!

  2. Stir and strain into a coupe glass, garnish with a lemon peel, and finish with a mist of overproof rum.

  3. Enjoy!
