Candle in the Moonlight

Candle in the Moonlight (Rye + Blueberry + Balsamic)

As the days keep getting shorter and shorter here in Chicago, we can't help but feel like summer is on its way out, giving way to cool, crisp autumn evenings. But as much as we love autumn (and we do!), we're not quite ready to give up on summer just yet! Because of this, we set out to create a drink that celebrates the best of both seasons - and this vibrant cocktail is the result of that effort! Candle in the Moonlight celebrates summer through generous additions of bright, refreshing summer ingredients - blueberries, lemon, mint, and lavender - while also paying homage to the incredible autumn flavors we love - spicy rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and balsamic vinegar. The result is a cocktail that is both a slow-sipper and endlessly refreshing - perfect for enjoying out on the deck as the sun sets on these last days of summer. So mix up one (or two!) of these incredible cocktails, kick back, and enjoy!

  • 2 oz rye whiskey

  • 1 oz sweet vermouth

  • 3/4 oz lemon juice

  • 1/4 cup fresh blueberries

  • 5-6 leaves fresh mint

  • 1/2 tsp balsamic vinegar

  • 2 dashes lavender bitters (We used Scrappy's Lavender Bitters!)

  • 1 pinch salt

  • Fresh blueberries (for garnish)

  • Lemon peel (for garnish)

  1. Combine sweet vermouth, lemon juice, blueberries, balsamic vinegar, lavender bitters, and salt in a cocktail shaker and muddle. Tip: To make your life easier, try using a citrus press like this one!

  2. Add rye whiskey, fresh mint, and ice to the shaker.

  3. Shake and double strain into an old-fashioned glass over a large ice cube.

  4. Garnish with fresh blueberries and lemon peel.

  5. Enjoy!
