Americano

Americano

At This and That Kitchen, there are two primary types of cocktails we LOVE to drink in the summer. First, we love easy-to-make drinks - because who wants to spend an inordinate amount of time mixing up an elaborate cocktail when you could be outside enjoying this incredible summer weather? Second, we are huge fans of cocktails that are drinkable and refreshing - at the end of the day, they're the perfect way for us to beat the heat here in Chicago! So to us, it really doesn't get much better than a classic Americano, which requires only 3 ingredients - Luxardo Bitter, sweet vermouth, and Perrier (or your favorite sparkling mineral water, club soda, or seltzer!) - and is just about the most refreshing drink imaginable! And despite how easy it is to make, this drink does NOT lack in complexity, as it hits all the right notes - bitter, sweet, herbal, and fruity! If you haven't had an Americano before, you are seriously missing out - so mix one up, and let us know what you think! And if you have - well - it may just be time to revisit this incredible and seriously underrated drink!

Pairings:

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz Luxardo Bitter
  • 1 1/2 oz sweet vermouth
  • 2 oz Perrier (or your favorite sparkling mineral water, club soda, or seltzer!)
  • Orange peel (for garnish)
  • Lemon peel (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Combine Luxardo Bitter and sweet vermouth in a mixing glass and fill with ice. Tip: If you don't have a mixing glass, a pint glass works just as well!

  2. Stir and strain into a highball glass or old-fashioned glass filled with ice.

  3. Add Perrier (or your favorite sparkling mineral water, club soda, or seltzer!), and stir briefly to combine.

  4. Garnish with orange and lemon peels. Tip: Instead of just placing the peels in your glass, pinch or gently twist each over the glass (which releases oils from the peel) and rub each peel around the rim of the glass before dropping it in!

  5. Enjoy!
