Traveling Vegan in Nashville, TN

Traveling Vegan in Nashville, TN

Between crazy work schedules and launching This and That Kitchen, we have been needing a chance to get away from Chicago and unwind! We have wanted to visit Nashville since we were in college, so we took a week off work, packed up the car, and headed off to Tennessee! After spending a couple of days mountain climbing and camping in the Great Smoky Mountains, we headed over to Nashville to dig into some amazing Southern comfort food! Although we weren't expecting it, Nashville is EXTREMELY vegan-friendly! We absolutely loved our time there with all of its friendly people, amazing vegan food, and rich music history! Check out a few of the awesome places we visited below!

The Vegan Eats

The Southern V

We are ranking this as our absolute number one recommendation to anyone visiting Nashville, whether carnivore or vegan! The folks over at The Southern V know what they are doing when it comes to comfort food! For more delicious details, check out this article

Five Daughters Bakery

1110 Caruthers Ave, Nashville, TN 37204

Some people are just born with a deep passion for sweets - and I am definitely one of those people! Just mention a bakery with vegan treats, and I am there. So obviously when we heard there was a Nashville bakery that was dishing up vegan yeast-raised donuts, we obviously had to look into it for ourselves. Not only did they have vegan donuts available, they had 5 DIFFERENT FLAVORS AVAILABLE that day! Usually vegans are lucky to have more than one option, let alone 5! We tried the 3 that they still had in stock - chocolate, chocolatecherry, and vanilla bean glazed (our absolute favorite!). Three takeaways here: 1) The donuts were HUGE, which obviously is a plus! 2) The flavors were on point with no artificial flavors to be found! 3) The staff is amazing! So friendly! Whether you are looking for a quick breakfast or sweet treat in the afternoon, you definitely have to stop by this amazing bakery!

Graze

1888 Eastland Ave, Nashville, TN 37206

1888 Eastland Ave, Nashville, TN 37206

One of the best-rated plant-based restaurants we came across online was this place called Graze, so we decided to stop by for a quick dinner before going out one night! It was very nice inside and the staff was very friendly! The menu was full of so many delicious-sounding options that we had a hard time choosing, but we ultimately settled on the Brussels & Mushroom Sandwich and the Mac and Chorizo. The sandwich was on point with a great blend of fresh ingredients that were seasoned to perfection. The flavor of the Mac and Chorizo was also good, and we enjoyed the flavor of the locally made seitan chorizo, but to us, the chorizo made the overall dish a bit too oily for our tastes. Overall, you can definitely tell that a lot of thought went into the many unique recipes found at Graze, making it a solid choice to stop by when in Nashville!

The Vegan Drinks

Being serious craft beer fans, we rarely go to a city without hitting up at least a couple of their breweries! And for us, Nashville was no exception!

Bearded Iris Brewing

101 Van Buren St, Nashville, TN 37208

101 Van Buren St, Nashville, TN 37208

Though it is relatively new to the craft beer scene, Bearded Iris is quickly developing a reputation as one of the best new breweries in the nation. And after having the chance to visit their taproom, we understand why! Based on the selection available during our visit, it's apparent that these guys primarily specialize in hazy, New England-style IPAs, and honestly, the beer that we sampled during our visit included some of our favorite examples of the style we've tried! Overall, we firmly believe this place is a must-visit for any craft beer fan visiting Music City!

Things to Do

Douglas Corner Cafe

2106 8th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204

2106 8th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204

Please disregard the potato picture! We were so in the moment in this AMAZING venue that we forgot to get a decent picture. But we think this is a testament to just how captivating open mic nights are at Douglas Corner Cafe! If you go to Nashville, do not waste your time on the honkytonks. Head over to Douglas Corner Cafe's open mic night where you can get a real feel for the Nashville music scene, meet Donnie and Rhonda (two of the nicest people in the world - who happen to run the place!), and drink some incredibly affordable classic beers! We had such an amazing time that we stayed for over four hours and enjoyed every single second! You HAVE to go!

Parthenon

2500 West End Ave, Nashville, TN 37203

2500 West End Ave, Nashville, TN 37203

Fun fact that we learned on our trip to Nashville: the people of Nashville REALLY loved Greek mythology and culture back in the day - so much so that they built a life-sized replica of the Parthenon... because that is what you expect to see in the South... the Parthenon. Anyway, no matter how odd it may seem, it is worth checking out!
